Tom Henry Kemp was born in 1897 at Stanton on the Wolds and was the son of Thomas a farm labourer and Rebecca Ann Kemp née Attewell of Stanton on the Wolds, Nottinghamshire. His father Thomas was born in 1864 at Stanton and his mother Rebecca Ann Attewell was born in 1862 also in Stanton. They were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration District. They went on to have 7 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood , their surviving children all born at Stanton were, William Benjamin b1888, John b1891, Elizabeth Ann b1892, Tom Henry b1897, Albert b1900 and Mary Kate b1902. In the 1911 census the family are living in the village of Stanton on the Wolds and are shown as Thomas Kemp 47 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Rebecca Ann 49 yrs and their children, William Benjamin 23 yrs a farm labourer, John 20 yrs a farm labourer, Elizabeth Ann 19 yrs a general servant, Tom Henry 14 yrs a scholar, Albert 11 yrs a scholar and Mary Kate 9 yrs.
Private Tom Henry Kemp enlisted at West Bridgford and served with the 1st battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers he died of wounds on 8th July 1917 and is buried at Red Cross Corner Cemetery (grave ref 1.D.3)
