Family History

Walter Rigby was born in 1900 at Medbourne, Leicestershire and was the son of Frederick John Rigby a railway labourer and Anna Rigby née Bellamy of 14 Forester Street, Netherfield, Carlton. His father was born in 1862 at Newton Harcourt and his mother Anna Bellamy was born in 1860 at Medbourne, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Uppingham Registration District they went on to have the following children, Emma b1885, Frederick b1887, Arthur b1889, William b1892, Florence b1893, Frank b1896, Charles b1898, Ethel b1900 and Walter b1900 all were born in Medbourne. In April 1911 Walter was a schoolboy and was residing in the family home at 14, Forester Street, Netherfield, Carlton, Nottinghamshire together with his mother and siblings, Charles, a schoolboy and his twin sister Ethel, a schoolgirl. In the 1911 census Walter’s father was employed as a railway labourer and was residing in Medbourne he was living on his own in the village.

Military History

Private Walter Rigby enlisted at Hucknall whilst residing at Medbourne, he served with the 484th Agricultural Company of the Labour Corps, he died on 8th November 1918 and is buried at Carlton Cemetery, Nottingham
