Eric was the son of the Reverend William Parker Stamper a clergyman and Mary Potts Stamper (née Sidebottom) of Stonebroom Vicarage Alfreton Derbyshire. He was the brother of Geoffrey Sidebottom, Mary Whilemena Parker, Dorothy Jane Parker and Christopher Gregory Parker. In 1901 the family was living at The Vicargage at Youlgrave Derbyshire. By 1911 the family was living at Milton House Chapel-en-le Frith Derbyshire. However Eric was boarding at Weir View Wyver Lane Belper with Henry Brocklehurst and his family.
Eric enlisted at Derby and served with the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters with the service number 2631. He was later transferred to the 160th Company Labour Corps (632032). He died of pneumonia when on leave at home (Stonebroom Vicarage) November 7th,1918 and was buried at Holy Cross Church, Morton, Derbyshire on 9th November 1918
His brother 29 year old Geoffrey Sidebottom Parker Stamper (CWGC Casualty no. 1588889) was a second lieutenant born 19th November 1888 at New Mills who had enlisted in August 1914 into the Army Service Corps as a private but was soon promoted to sergeant. He was gazetted on 16th July 1917 second lieutenant. He served in Egypt, Salonika and Sulva Bay. He was killed in action on 25th March 1918 on the Somme while serving with the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment).
