Family History

George was baptised on the 2nd July 1895 at Shalfleet the son of the Reverend Charles Commeline and Alice Leonie Caron Shute (née Buss) of Saint Mary's Vicarage 109 Charing Cross Road London. Their children were George Francis (1895), Annie Leonie Olive (1892), Alfred Commeline (1893), Hardwick Theodore (1897) [killed in action in Italy 27/10/1918] and Christine Mary Florence (1900). In 1901 the family was living at The Vicarage Shalfleet. By the time George enlisted, they were living at 109 Charing Cross Road London. George's effects of £59 0 shillings and 9 pence were left to his father Reverend Charles Commeline Shute (Probate 13/3/1918 London).

Military History

He was taken prisoner of war and died while in the hands of the Germans. His body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Arras Memorial Bay 6
