Raphael Kerry

6th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery, Gunner Raphael Kerry was killed in action on 13th April 1918 and is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref. III.G.40).

CWGC headstone personal inscription: 'On whose soul sweet Jesus have mercy we have loved we love we shall love' Nottingham Evening Post, 'Roll of Honour, 7th May 1918:- “KERRY. – Killed in action on April 13th, 1918, Raphael, the beloved and younger son of James and Eliza Kerry, 23, Ossington-villas, on whose soul, sweet Jesus, have mercy; late Ecclesiastical student or the diocese of Nottingham. He was called upon to die that others might live. Requiem to follow.” Article published 14th May 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “A service was held at St. Barnabas Cathedral, Nottingham, to-day, [14th May 1918] in memory of Raphael F. Kerry. R.G.A., son of Mr. J. Kerry, Ossington-villas, Sherwood-street. The deceased was a clerical student and was educated at the English college, Valladolid, Spain, and St. Edmund's College, Ware. He was killed in action on April 13th by a shell which also wounded a soldier who was present at to-day's ceremony. The Rev. G.
