Family History

Sydney Arthur Richardson was born in 1884 at Woodborough, he was the son of Alfred a frame work knitter and Martha Richardson née Spencer and the brother of Thomas, Edith, Alfred and Samuel Richardson. His father Alfred was born in 1866 a Epperstone, his mother Martha Spencer was born in 1867 at Woodbough they were married on 18th January 1886 at St Swithens Church, Woodobough, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1891 they lived in a cottage on Shelt Hill opposite the Nags Head Public House Main Street Woodborough. In 1911 the family was living at Wyldes Yard in Woodborough Alfred 45 yrs is a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Martha 44 yrs and 5 of their children, Sydney 27 yrs a hotel waiter, Thomas 17 yrs a hosiery winder, Edith 13 yrs, Alfred 10 yrs and Samuel 9 years of age.

Military History

He enlisted at Carlton Nottingham and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial on the Somme in France.

Extra Information

his brother Thomas Richardson served with the Royal Norfolk regiment and died on 29th November 1919 (he is not recorded on the cwgc or soldiers died register and is not shown on the Woodborough memorial. onal research and information Peter Gillings
