Ernest Riley was born in 1890 and baptised on 2nd October 1890 at Ironville the son of James an iron worker and Mary Riley née Wilson of Franklin Road, Jacksdale, Nottinghamshire. James was born in 1862 at Ironville, Mary Wilson was born in 1867 also at Ironville, married on 3rd November 1888 at Alfreton and had the following children, Ernest b1890, Frank b1895 and Fred b1897. In 1911 the family are living at 12 Frank Street, Ironville, they are living with Richard Wilson 88 yrs a widow, his mothers widowed father. James Riley 49 yrs an iron worker, living with his wife and children.

Military History

Private Ernest Riley enlisted at Derby, he died of wounds on 26th September 1917 and is buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery 5.E.13
