Family History

Thomas Burton was born in 1890 the son of Edgar a coal miner and Jane Burton née Lamb of New Westwood, Jacksdale, Nottinghamshire. Edgar was born in 1856 at Ambergate, Derbyshire, Jane Lamb in 1859 at Whaley, Derbyshire. Married in 1881 near Belper, they had six children, five surviving infancy - Amelia b.1883, Charles b.1884, Henry b.1885, Thomas b.1890 and Esther b.1901. In 1911, the family was living at Westwood. Charles and Henry were coal miners whilst Thomas made sanitary pipes.

Military History

Thomas Burton enlisted at Nottingham whilst livinging at Jacksdale, He is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France.

Extra Information

His brother Lance Corporal 15230 Charles Burton, also died as a result of the Great War. He died on 29th March 1921 and is buried at St Mary's Churchyard, Westwood.
