Family History

William Holes Daykin was born 1884 in Nottingham in the parish of St James. His mother Emma Daykin was unmarried and worked as a lace clipper. He had one younger brother Ernest Henry born in 1895 and in 1901 the three of them were living at No 2 Albion Square, Nottingham. He married Mary Ann Parsons in 1907 and they had a daughter Beatrice in 1908. By 1911 the young family were living at No 38 Manvers Street, Netherfield. He worked in the iron industry as a core maker, his wife worked at Carlton Mill as a machinist.

Military History

William enlisted at Nottingham. Killed in action he is buried at Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-l'Avoue, France. His wife asked that the phrase 'He nobly did his duty' be put onto his headstone. His name on his medal card is given as DAKIN and shows he was eligible for the British and Victory medals.
