Family History

John Glasby and Annie Eliza Milns (both of Mattersey), married at Mattersey in 1895. They had only one child, a son who was born in Mattersey in 1898 and named Edgar. John was working as a groom in 1901 and by 1911 he was employed as a Rural District Council roadman. The last record before Edgar joined in the war was in 1911 where he was a 14 year old school boy.

Military History

He enlisted at Retford and died of wounds in France where he was buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery 67.A.28

CWG additional information:- Son of John and Annie Glasby, of Mattersey, Doncaster Edgar had an uncle (also called Edgar) who was a long term soldier who was discharged from the army in 1916 due to severe illness and is also named on the Mattersey memorial
