Thomas Simpson enlisted on 22 May 1916 and served in France from 6 October 1916. He was killed by a shell on 10 May 1917 while in the trenches and was buried in Wancourt British Cemetery (grave ref. i.D.11).

Mansfield Reporter, 22 June 1917: ‘Mansfield Soldiers Killed. [Simpson, Walter Moxon] The late Pte. Thomas Simpson, 4th Platoon, KOYLI, enlisted on May 22nd, 1916. He went to the front on the 6th Oct., 1916 and was killed May 8th, 1917, in the trenches by shell while reading a letter from home.
