George Henry Clayton

George Henry Clayton was born on 2nd July 1890 at Harrogate, he was baptised on 14th September 1890 at Christ Church, Harrogate and was the son of the late George Henry (senior ) a shoe maker and newsagent and Alice Clayton, née Borrill of 1A Devonshire Place, Harrogate, Yorkshire. His father George Henry (senior ) was born in 1858 at Harrogate, he died in 1901 aged 43 yrs the death was recorded in the Knaseborough Registration District, his mother Alice Borrill was born in 1861 in Lincolnshire, they were married in 1879 the marriage was recorded in the Knaseborough Registration District, they went on to have 13 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children were all born in Harrogate and were , Florence b1881, Albert b1883, Edith b1885,Agnes b1887, Gertrude b1889, George Henry b1890, Alfred b1894, Nelly b1897, Ethel b1899, Annie b1901 and Edward b1902. In the 1911 census the family are living at 1A Devonshire Place, Harrogate and are shown as Alice 50 yrs a widow head of the family and a station newsagent, she is living with her children, Edith 26 yrs a business assistant, Agnes 24 yrs at home, George 20 yrs an apprentice in a boot factory, Alfred 17 yrs a business assistant, Nelly 14 yrs at home, Ethel 12 yrs a scholar, Annie 10 yrs a scholar and Edward 9 yrs, also living with them is Ann Borrill 85 yrs a widow George Henry Clayton married his wife Lucy Stansall in 1913 in Newark, they lived at 62 William Street Newark, they went on to have a son John b1918 in Newark.
