Edward James Baxter was born in 1898 at Queenstown, Ireland and was the son of James Henry a farmyard foreman and Margaret Baxter née Conley of Linby His father James Henry was born in 1857 in Norfolk and his mother Margaret Conley was born in 1867 at Dalmeny, Scotland, they were married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Louth registration district, they went on to have the following children, William Henry b1897, Edward James b1898, Blanche b1900 and Henry b1905, all were born in Queenstown, Ireland. In the 1911 census the family were living at Althorpe, Doncaster and were shown as James Henry Baxter 54 yrs a farm yardman foreman, he is living with his wife Margaret 44 yrs and their children, William Henry 14 yrs a scholar, Edward James 13 yrs a scholar, Blanche 11 yrs a scholar and Henry 6 yrs of age. Edwards pension card gives his mothers address as 13 Vale Road, Colwick.

Military History

Corporal Edward James Baxter enlisted at Worksop whilst residing at Todwick, Sheffield, he served with the 10th battalion South Wales Borderers. He was killed in action on 27th April 1918 and is buried at Bouzincourt Communal Cemetery Extension grave reference 2.K.12
