George William Rhodes was born in 1898 the son of George a laundry clerk and Annie Elizabeth Rhodes née Pemberton of 9, Albert St., Gedling, Notts. George was born in 1865 at Arnold, Annie Elizabeth Pemberton was born in 1866 also at Arnold, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 8 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were , Annie, Albert, Sarah Ellen, and Cecil. In 1911 the family lived at Sherbrook Road, Arnold, George is 45 yrs and a laundry clerk,

Military History

Private George Rhodes enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing in Gedling and served with the 1st battalion South Notts Hussars, he died of wounds on 30th November 1917 in Egypt. His name is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel.
