William Macfarlane (junior) was the son of the late William Macfarlane (senior) of Edinburgh He married Ethel Mary Watson (born 18th March 1887 Aberdeen) in 1910 and they lived at "Balnagask", Orlando Drive, Carlton, Nottingham, they had a daughter Margaret Mary born 25th July 1913 In 1911 the family are living at Gedling Road, Carlton with his widow father William Macfarlane, William Macfarlane (junior) is 27 yrs of age and is a fire and accident inspector for the Royal Insurance Company Limited. William (junior) was the grandson of the late Very Reverend Dr. John Macfarlane, of Duddingston.

Military History

Private William Macfarlane enlisted at Nottingham, he was killed in action on 7th May 1917, having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
