Family History

Reuben Marriott was born in 1898 the son of Cornelius a farm labourer and Mary Martha Marriott née Cooper and the brother of Mary Ann, Frank, Cornelius, Susan, Mary and William Marriott. In 1901 and 1911 the family lived on Main Street Gedling. Cornelius was born in 1849 and Mary Cooper was born in 1851 both were born in Calverton, married in 1874 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 11 children in total. In 1911 his parents are residing at Main Street, Gedling Cornelius is 62 yrs and a farm labourer. Reuben in 1911 is living with his uncle and aunt John and Susan Lamb at Northfields Farm near Bingham, Reuben is 13 yrs of age and a scholar.

Military History

Lance Corporal Rueben Marriott enlisted at Newark he was killed in action 4th March 1917, aged 19, whilst moving forward to take over old German front line trenches, during which the Germans launched a counter attack. Buried: Foncquevillers Military Cemetery, France. Plot 2. Row D. Grave 11.
