Family History

Alfred Mayfield was born in 1880 at Coddington, son of Thomas a labourer and Mary Ann Mayfield née Hawkins. Alfred married Adelaide Mary Butlin on 4th July 1906 at Great Oxenden, Northamptonshire, they lived at Kildale, Grossmont, Yorkshire and had 2 children Violet born 16th August 1908 and Jeffrey born 3rd December 1909. In 1911 the family are living at Kildale, Grossmount, Yorkshire. Alfred is shown as being 31 yrs of age and a butler, he is living with his wife Adelaide 37 yrs and their two children Violet 2 yrs and Jeffrey 1 year old.

Military History

Lance Corporal Alfred Mayfield enlisted at Stokesley, Yorkshire whilst residing at Grossmont, Yorkshire, he served with the Border Regiment he was killed in action on 15th September 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
