Thomas Mullins was born on 17th June 1894 at Drighlington, Yorkshire and was baptised on 5th August 1894 at St Pauls Church, Drighlington and was the son of William Amos a railway signalman and his wife the late Mary Ann Mullins née Harrison of 8 Florence Road, Gedling Nottingham. His father William Amos was born in 1864 in Horsington, Somerset and his mother Mary Ann Harrison was born in 1862 in Horncastle,Lincolnshire, (died 18th April 1912 aged 51 yrs) they were married ion 16th July 1893 at St John's Church, Clayton, Yorkshire, they wenton to have 4 children, sadly one was to die in infancy or early childhood their surviving children were, Thomas b1894 Drighlington, John b1897 Drighlington and William b1904 Netherfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at 8 FlorenceRoad, Gedling and are shown as William Amos 45 yrs a railway signalman he is living with his wife Mary Ann 49 yrs and their children Thomas 17 yrs a colliery clerk, John 14 yrs an engineers clerk and William 7 yrs. He and his brother John both emigrated to New Zealand, his brother was given as his next of kin details when he enlisted, (brother of Mr. J. Mullins, of Foxton, Manawatu, Wellington)
Private Thomas Mullins served with the 2nd battalion, Wellington Regiment , New Zealand Forces , he was killed in action on 15th September 1916 and is commemorated on the Caterpillar Valley New Zealand Memorial, Somme, France
