Herbert William Padgett was born in 1898 at Normanton on Soar and was the son of William a cycle builder and Elizabeth Padgett née Mills of West Street, East Leake His father William was born in 1866 at East Bridgford and his mother Elizabeth Mills was born in 1868 at West Leake, they were married C 1898 and went on to have the following children, Elsie Mary b1890 Zouch Mills, Hilda Jane b1892 Zouch Mills, Harriett Gertrude b1896 Normanton, Herbert William b1898 Normanton, Albert Redvers b1901 Normanton, Avis Elizabeth b1904 Gotham and Evelyn Annie b1907 Gotham. In the 1911 census the family are living at West Street, East Leake and are shown as William Padgett 45 yrs a cycle builder, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 43 yrs and their children, Edith Mable 17 yrs a wicker basket maker, Herbert William 13 yrs a scholar, Albert Redvers 10 yrs a scholar, Avis Elizabeth 7 yrs and Evelyn Annie 4 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Herbert William Padgett enlisted at Loughborough whilst residing at East Leake, he served with the 8th battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He died of wounds on 22nd March 1918 and is buried at Roye New British Cemetery, France.
