Horace Hind

From Horaces service record we can see that he was 32 yrs of age and lived at 20 Angel Road,Hammersmith when he went to enlist at Hammersmith recruiting office ..He stated that he was a professional cricket player.He attested at Hammersmith on 29th June 1915 into the 23rd Battalion Middlesex Regiment (Football Battalion) and was allocated service number 1635. He gave as his next of kin as his wife Beatrice Hind of 45 Overstone Road Hammersmith after crossing out Samuel Hind father of Calverton,it further states that he was married to Beatrice Maria Gates (spinster) at Hammersmith on 17th October 1915 and that at this time they had no children.He was posted as private on the 30th June 1915 .His medical records state he was 32yrs, 5 feet 4 inches tall,his weight was 117 lbs,his chest size was 36 inches. His relatives are given as father Samuel Hind of Calverton,it states mother - none and brothers Samuel Hind 45 yrs, 30 Saddler Street,Mansfield, Arthur Hind 41yrs, ,William Caffyn Hind 37 yrs sisters Ethel Maria Smith 39 yrs and Rosa Nellie Richardson 30 all of Calverton.Horace was killed in action on 15th September 1916 having served 1 year 79 days service. His effects were sent to Mrs Beatrice Maria Hind of 45 Overstone Road,Hammersmith. On 16th April 1917, the minister of pensions notified Beatrice that she would be entitled to a pension of 13/9 d a week, with effect from that date. Finally an entry in his record dated 6th November 1920 shows that Beatrice received both the Victory medal and the British war medal for her husband services during the Great War.
