Ernest Wilson Severn was b orn in 1895 at Blidworth and was the son of Wilson Severn a farmer and Mary Severn née Bird, of Cliffe Farm,Blidworth, Nottinghamshire. His father Wilson was born in 1867 at Codnor, Derbyshire, his mother Mary Bird was born in 1868 at Blidworth they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration district , they went on to have 9 children sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Ernest Wilson b1895 Blidworth, Mabel b1897 Blidworth, Wiliam Frederick b1898 Kirkby in Ashfield, Edmund Joseph b1900 Kirkby in Ashfield. Lilian b1902 Blidworth, Frank b1905 Blidworth and Jesse Severn b1908 at Blidworth. In the 1911 census the family lived at Blidworth and were shown as Wilson Severn 44 yrs a farmer, he is living with his wife Mary 43 years and their children, Ernest Wilson 16 yrs a farmers son working on farm, Mabel 14 yrs a dairy worker, William Frederick 13 yrs a farmers son working on farm, Edmund Joseph 11 yrs a scholar, Lillian 9 yrs a scholar, Frank 6 yrs and Jesse 3 years of age. His probate was proven on 17th January 1919 at Nottingham, it shows him as Ernest Wilson Severn of Cliff Farm, Blidworth, Private in H.M.Army died on 24th July 1917 in France, his effects of £86, 5 shillings and 6 pence were left to Wilson Severn a farmer (his father)
Private Ernest Wilson Severn enlisted at Mansfield and initially served with service number 145034 in the Northumberland Fusiliers Regiment & 45158 Royal Field Artillery. He died of wounds on 24th July 1917 in the 25th Ambulance train in France, he is buried at Mount Huon Military Cemetery Grave Reference: II C 13
