Family History

Arthur Sidney Jones known as 'Sidney' was born in 1896 at Peasley, Derbyshire, he was the foster son of the late Thomas a coal miner and of Mary Berridge, of Hawthorn Terrace, Blidworth. His father was born in 1836 at Blidworth and died in 1903 aged 64 yrs his mother Mary Berridge was born in 1864 also at Blidworth they had the following children all born at Blidworth, Thomas b1869, Rowland b1880, Lily b1883 and Catherine born 1883. In the 1911 census his widowed foster mother is living at Blidworth she is shown as being 67 yrs a widow and school caretaker, she is living with her daughter Lily 29 yrs no occupation listed, Sidney Jones is 15 yrs and a pony driver underground, he is shown as a foster son also living with them are two further children also identified as foster children are Willie Parkin 12 yrs birth place unknown and William Bramley 8 yrs place of birth unknown.

Military History

Rifleman Arthur Sidney Jones enlisted at Mansfield and served with the 11th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 28th May 1916 and is buried at Potijze Burial Ground Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
