Family History

Empson Alcock was born in 1890 at New Beeches, Silverdale Road, Wolstanton, Staffordshire. His parents were Empson and Ellen (Nellie) Louisa Alcock and he had an older sister by 2 years called Violet. His father was a solicitor and, being in keeping with his status, employed a nurse, house keeper and cook. By 1911 when Empson junior was 21, he was described as an under graduate and the family were now resident at Hayfields, Tittensop, Stoke on Trent. On the 12th Feb 1918, (admin Lichfield) his effect of £465 7s 5d were left to his father, Empson Alcock senior.

London Gazette 30466, 8/1/1918 page 26 Supplement 9/1/1918.Lt Empson Alcock RFA“For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an intense and hostile bombardment of his battery position he assisted two other officers to extinguish a burning gun-pit which contained over a hundred rounds of ammunition. His gallantry and promptitude saved the gun and ammunition from destruction”
