Charles Thomas Smith

Charles Thomas Smith was born in 1887 at Basford, Nottingham and was the son of Charles a gas labourer and the late Martha Smith née Beck of 1 Oswald Terrace, Fisher Street, Nottingham. His father Charles was born in 1858 at Kirk Langley, Derbyshire, his mother Martha Beck was born in 1849 in Leicester, they were married in 1884 at Nottingham, Martha brought two children to the marriage, George Henry Beck b1879 Leicester and Sylvia Beck born 1882 Leicester, they went on to have two children Charles Thomas b1887 Nottingham and Harold born 1892 Nottingham. In the 1911 census his widowed father was living at 1 Oswald Terrace Fisher Street Nottingham he is shown as Charles Smith a widow 53 yrs a gas labourer, he is living with his son Charles Thomas 24 yrs a general labourer for a hosiery manufacturer. Charles Thomas married his wife Lois Askham (born 2nd April 1889) in Nottingham in 1916, his pension record cards shows his widows address as 27 Brook Street, Ickles, Rotherham. Following Charles Thomas death his widow Lois was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 20th May 1918.
