Born 1899 at Carlton the son of Joseph and Mary Cross, of 10, St. Austin's Drive, Carlton, Nottingham. They had moved from Carnarvon Grove in Carlton where they were living in the 1901 census. He was the youngest of four children, three sons and a daughter. His father Joseph was a bricklayer working for the Great Northern Railway.

Military History

He enlisted in Nottingham. Commemorated on the Soissons Memorial, France. he was eligible for the British and Victory medals.
