Family History

Joseph was born in 1885 at Carlton. In 1905 he married Clara Frisby and they had several children; Mary born 1905, Martha born 1909, William who had died by 1911, Gladys born 1910, Joseph born 1912 and Edward born 1914. In 1911 the family were living at No 20 Southcliff Road, Carlton and Joseph was a furniture painter whilst Clara worked in the hosiery trade from home.

Military History

Joseph entered the war on 19 August 1915. Killed in action he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France - the memorial to the missing of the Somme. He was eligible for the 1915 star, the Victory and British medals
