Son of George and Sarah Ellis born 1887 in Carlton. His father was a fitter labourer in 1891 and the family comprising parents and 4 sons including Anthony were living on Fox Hill Road, Carlton. By 1901 the family had moved to Stonepit Road, Carlton with the addition of a daughter and two more sons. George was now a brickmaker and Anthony was a labourer at the brickyard. By 1911 the family had moved to 44 Main Street Carlton and had grown again with the addition of 3 more sons. All together George & Sarah had 12 children of whom 9 survived to 1911. Anthony is now a bricklayer. In late 1911 Anthony married Lois Wakefield. They had two daughters, Florence in 1912 and Elsie in 1914. Following his death she remarried in 1920 to Jack Clarke and moved to The Flatts, Elvaston, Derby.
He enlisted at Carlton and initially served as 49798 Royal Engineers then transferred to the 8th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment as 37374. He was killed in action and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) memorial. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals
