John Henry was born 1899 at Nottingham son of George & Mary Armstrong. On the 1901 census family were living at Southcliffe Road, Carlton. George was a Tramway labourer. On the 1911 census the family had moved to No 3 Main Street, West Carlton. John Henry was one of 7 children born to the couple, 3 of whom had died by the 1911 census.
Enlisted at Nottingham. Killed in action in France he was eligible for the British & Victory medals. he is commemorated at the Boise de Angles British Cemetery, Crevecoeur sur l'Escaut France.
The date of death is given as 9 October 1918 on Carlton War Memorial and 10 October 1918 on the Commonwealth War Grave website
