Frederick Samuel Leaper was born on 26th December 1887 at Carlton and was the son of Samuel a bricklayer and Mary Jane Leaper née Briggs of 46 Dale Road, Carlton. His father was born in 1860 at Carlton and his mother Mary Jane Briggs was born in 1868 also at Carlton, they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district , they went on to have the following children, Frederick Samuel b1887, Lucy Ellen b1890, Thomas b1894, Hilda Ann b1897, Albert b1899, Leonard b1901, Sam b1904, Ida b1906, Harry b1908 and Dora b1911. In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 46 Dale Ave, Carlton and are shown as Samuel 52 yrs a bricklayer, he is living with his wife Mary Jane and their children, Lucy Ellen 21 yrs a plain net mender, Thomas 17 yrs a pony driver at a colliery, Hilda Ann 14 yrs a cutter out, Albert 12 yrs a scholar, Leonard 10 yrs a scholar, Sam 7 yrs a scholar, Ida 5 yrs, Harry 3 yrs and Dora 4 months of age. In the same 1911 census, Frederick has left the family home and is boarding at a boarding house, 'Lilla Villa Drummond Road, Skegness, run by William Burrows 57 yrs a general labourer and his wife Mary a boarding house keeper. Frederick is shown as being 23 yrs single and a bricklayer whilst a William Leaper (possible cousin) is also boarding in the same house William is shown as being 36 yrs single and a builders labourer.
Private Frederick Samuel Leaper enlisted at Nottingham , he initially served with the service number 4581 in the Lancashire Fusiliers, he landed in France on 1st February 1915 and died on 4th July 1915 whilst serving with the Royal Irish Fusiliers, he is buried at Ste Marie Cemetery, Le Harve
