Son of William and Mary Henson, of 653, Main St., Carlton, Notts. William Henson and Mary lived at 2 Taylors Yard, Newark in 1881 after they married and had their first son William. They had a total of 10 children 7 of whom survived. In 1891 the family had moved to No 6 Rutland Street, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire with children William and Ellen. By 1901 the family had com back into the county and were living at No 8 Marmion Road, Nottingham. William was a journeyman Blacksmith and his wife was a lace hand working at home. The older sons, William who was a general labourer and George, an engine fitter, were still at home along with the younger children Harry, Fred and May. By 1911 the family had moved to 53 Main Street, Carlton. William was now a General Dealer running a marine stores and Mary was still doing lace work from home. The older children including Fred had left home. Fred had joined the army and was based at Crownhill RSO Devon, at Egg Buckland, Devon. He was a private in the Sherwood Foresters
Fred had joined the Sherwood Foresters prior to 1911 as a Private, enlisting at Derby. He spent some time based at the Crownhill Barracks in Devon. On 4 November 1914 he landed at France and joined the war. He rose through the ranks becoming a Lance Corporal and a Sergeant. He was killed in action and is buried at Hem Farm Military Cemetery, Hem-Monacu in the Somme region of France. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals
