John Nixon known as Jack was born in 1897 at Willoughby on the Wolds and was the son of Frederick Watkin a bricklayers labourer and Lucy Nixon née Henson of Willoughby on the Wolds. His father Frederick Watkin was born in 1867 and his mother Lucy Henson was born in 1867 also at Willoughby they were married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Loughborough registration district, they went on to have the following children, John b1897, Harold b1900, Elsie b1902, Albert Edward b1904 and Millicent b1906, all were born in Willoughby. In the 1911 census the family were living at Willoughby on the Wolds and were shown as Lucy 44 yrs head of the family married and a charwoman, she is living with her children, Jack 14 yrs a farm servant, Harold 11 yrs a scholar, Elsie 9 yrs a scholar Albert Edward 7 yrs a scholar and Millicent 5 yrs of age
Lance Corporal John Nixon enlisted at Loughborough whilst residing at Willoughby on the Wolds, he served with the 1/5th battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He was killed in action on 24th May 1917 and is buried at Bully-Grenway communal cemetery British extension, France.
He was known as Jack.
