Family History

Joseph William Goodacre was born in 1894 at Willoughby on the Wolds and was the son of the late Arthur a joiner and Elizabeth Ann Goodacre née Cross of Field House, Willoughby-on-Wolds, Leicestershire. His father Arthur was born in 1864 at Willoughby, he died in 1912 aged 48 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Ann Cross was born in 1865 also at Willoughby, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district, they went on to have the following children, Frances Ellen b1887, Nina May b1889, Joseph William b1894, and Arthur Leslie b1901 all were born at Willoughby they had two further children Walter b1907 and Ernest b1911 however both died in early infancy. In the 1911 census the family were living at Willoughby and were shown as Arthur 47 yrs a joiner, he is living with his wife Elizabeth Ann 46 yrs and their children Frances Ellen 24 yrs an apprentice dressmaker, Nin May 22 yrs a school teacher, Joseph William 17 yrs a farm servant and Arthur Leslie 10 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Joseph William Goodacre enlisted at Loughborough whilst residing at Willoughby on the Wolds, he served with the 12th division mechanical transport company, Army Service Corps. He died of wounds on 18th October 1918 and is buried at St Pol British Cemetery, St Pol-Sur-Ternoise, France.
