Family History

Jonathan Goodacre was born in 1891 at Willoughby on the Wolds and was the son of William a farm labourer and Sarah Ann Goodacre née Skerritt of Willoughby on the Wolds village. His father William was born in 1857 at Willoughby and his mother was born in 1859 at Grantham, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Willoughby, Arthur b1881, Mary 1882, George b1884, Albert b1886, Caroline b1888, Jonathan b1891, Annie b1893, Ivy Nora b1895, Archie Lawrence b 1897, Walter b1900 and Ada b1904. In the 1911 census Jonathan has left the family home, he is living at Brixworth Hall, Northampton and is one of 15 servants living at the hall, he shown as being 20 yrs of age and a chauffeur working for Guy Paget esquire. In the same 1911 census we find his parents still living at Willoughby on the Wolds and are shown as William Goodacre 54 yrs a farm labourer he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 52 yrs and their children, Walter 11 yrs a scholar and Ada 7 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Jonathan Goodacre served as John Goodacre and enlisted at Chester, he initially served with the service number 21581 in the Shropshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 11th October 1918 whilst serving with the 37th battalion Machine Gun Corps. He is buried at Viesly Communal Cemetery, France.
