Family History

He was the son of John and Ellen Stokes of Upper Broughton. In 1901 John (41), a cattleman, Ellen (40) and their children, Henry (14), Mary A (10), George (10) and Frank (5) were living in Kinoulton. Frank's brother Lance Corporal George Stokes 5th Bn Dorset Regiment died of wounds on 6 October 1917 aged 27.

Military History

He arrived in France on 17 February 1915. He died of wounds and is buried in Merville Communal Cemetery. He was awarded the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
