Reuben Fairholm was born in 1883 one of Joseph and Emma Cull Fairholm's ten children. They lived at 7 Windmill Street Radford Nottingham where Reuben’s father worked as a coal dealer. He died in 1896 age 54. By the time Reuben was 17, he was working as an own account coal dealer. In 1906 he married Annie Oxby at St Peters Church Radford. They had four daughters Nellie born 13 April 1907, Gladys 24 June 1908, Kate born in January 1910 and Annie (Nancy) 1st April 1916 (all born Kinoulton) and lived at Field Farm Hickling Pastures Kinoulton Nottingham. Only three days after their last child was born Annie died. It is probable that the children were looked after by Reuben’s sister in law as Reuben’s effects valued at £909 were left to Kate Oxby, Annie’s sister.
