Family History

Leslie Tomblin was born in 1893 the son of Charles a railway goods guard on the Midland Railway and Mary Tomblin née North of Pettifor Terrace, Westhouses, near Alfreton . His father Charles was born in 1864 at Thistleton, Rutland, his mother Mary was born in 1863 at Foston, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1888 their mariage was recorded in the Newark Registration district, they had nine children:- Albert (b. 1891) Frances (b. 1889) Leslie (b. 1893) Christopher (b 1896) Kate (b.1898) Ruth (b 1899), Ethel (b. 1903), Joseph (b.1905) and Cyril (b. 1909). In 1901 and 1911 the family lived at Westerhouses Derbyshire. In 1911 Leslie lived on a farm at Stonebroom Derbyshire.

Military History

Private Leslie Tomblin enlisted at Newark on 10th April 1916 he gave his address as Manor Farm Car Colston, his age as 23 yrs and 179 days and his occupation as that of a waggoner, his next of kin was his father Charles of 2 Pettifor Terrace, Westerhouses. He was given a medical at Derby on 11th April 1916 and on 12th April 1916 he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment He landed in France on 10th August 1916 and was killed in action on 9th October 1916 and is buried in Aveluy Wood Cemetery (Lancashire Dump) Mesnil- Martinsart Grave Reference: I A 3
