George Clarence William (or William Clarence) Robinson was born in Fledborough, Notts and registered in Retford in 1893. His parents were Joseph and Mary Jane Robinson and moved around extensively as shown by the locations of the births of their seven children, Edith born 1891 South Clifton, George C W 1893 Fledborough, Charlie Leverton 1896, Elsie 1898 at Gainsborough, Lewis born Worksop 1903, Horace born Mansfield 1905, and Mabel born Retford in 1908. George enlisted initially as number 91315, of the Sherwood Foresters. He was then transferred to the Leicestershire Regiment and went to France where he was killed in action and buried in the Oviller New Communal Cemetery, Solesmes, France, where there are over 60, 1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site. All of whom fell in October and November 1918.
