Alfred was born in Plumstead in 1898 and was the eldest of 5 surviving children of Vincent and Alice Patterson, however his father died while serving during the first world war in 1915 and Alice remarried a man called Davison and lived at of 22, Abney St., Sheffield. In the 1911 census the family are living at 33 East Street,Retford and Alfred is 13 years of age and a scholar

Military History

He enlisted into the Army at Sheffield and served with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment but must have lied about his age as by the time he was killed in action on 16th June 1915 was only 17 years of age. His name is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres
