Family History

William was born in Haxey, Lincolnshire in 1900 and was the son of William a railway labourer and Annie Elizabeth Smith of 2A,Wellington St, Retford. William and Annie had a total of seven children but one sadly died in infancy. In the 1901 census the family are living at Haxey , William and Annie have four children Walter born 1895 - James born 1896 - George born 1899 and William born 1900. By the 1911 census the family have moved to Littleworth , Rossington near to Doncaster William and Annie now have the following children living with them , Walter - George - Willie who is 11 years - Albert and Herbert .

Military History

William enlisted in Retford and gave his place of birth as Haxey, he served in the 8th battalion , Lincolnshire regiment. he was wounded and died from these wounds on 11th October 1918 and is buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery grave reference 14.C.12
