Arthur Raynor

Arthur Raynor was the son of Arthur Raynor and Sophia Braithwaite who married at Nottingham in 1887. Their children included: Florence Ann (b.1887) and Arthur (b.1892). The Raynors lived at 8 Brookfield Road, Meadows [C.1891]. In 1898 Arthur Raynor senior, a lace maker, died aged 32. Now a widow Sophia Raynor lived with her two children and several boarders at 108 Park Street, New Lenton [C.1901]. By 1911 Sophia was living by herself at 40 Hornbuckle Street, Radford and working as a lace curtain mender. When Private Arthur Raynor’s death notice was placed in the local newspaper his mother’s address was given as 15 Beresford Street, Radford [n.e.p.18.11.18]. In 1920 Sophia Raynor married Tom Antcliff at Nottingham and eventually died in Nottingham, aged 76, in 1944. In 1911 Arthur Raynor junior was living with his married sister and her husband at 271 Denman Street, Radford. On 25 July 1914 he married Ann Maria Potter at Radford St Peter’s Church. They don’t appear to have had any children. A second death notice in the local paper gave his widow’s address as 26 Beresford Street, Radford [n.e.p.19.11.1918]. This was also the address given in the CWGC records. Ann Maria Raynor never remarried and died at Nottingham, aged 78, in 1970.
