Family History

John William Lyman was the son of John William Lyman and Edith Astle won married at Nottingham in 1880. Their children included: Edwin William (b.1879), Kate Maud (b.1885), Elizabeth Ann (b.1890), Ernest (b.1894), John William (b.1898) and Alfred George (b.1901). The Lyman family lived at: 8 Ivanhoe Terrace, St Mary’s Parish, Nottingham [C.1891]; 26 Mabel Street, Meadows [C.1901]; 23 Palin Street, Birkin Avenue, Hyson Green [C.1911 & CWGC]. Edith Lyman died at Nottingham, aged 54, in 1915. John William Lyman senior, who by the end of his working career was a boot repairer working for himself, died at Nottingham in 1940, aged 80.

Military History

He enlisted at Derby; killed in action; as his body was never recovered his name was added to the Tyne Cot Memorial, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
