Family History

Alfred Key was the son of Alfred and Emma Key. Their children included: Mary Ann (b.1880), Edith (b.1883), Annie (c.b.1885), Gertie/Gertrude (b.1887), Sarah (b.1891), Alfred (b.1894), and Hilda (b.1899). The family lived at: 2 Highhurst Street, Radford [C.1901]; 47 Norwood Road, Radford [C.1911 & Army records/1917]; 76 Norwood Road, Radford [Army records/1919 & CWGC]. Alfred Key, a lace maker, died at Nottingham, aged 84, in 1942. His wife, Emma, had predeceased him, dying at Nottingham, aged 71 in 1929.

Military History

He enlisted at Nottingham on 24 August 1911 in the 7th [Robin Hoods] Bn. Sherwood Foresters; embarked at Southampton for France on 23 February 1915; went missing on 13 October 1915 and declared dead in December 1916; his name was added to the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
