Charles George Higgins

Charles George Higgins was the son of Charles George Higgins and Adeliza Blake who married at Nottingham in 1877. Their children included: Adeliza Harriett (b.1878), Flora Anna (b.1882), Kate Iolanthe (b.1886) and Charles George (b.1891). They lived at 180 Kirke White Street, Meadows [C.1881]; 2 Livingstone Terrace, Meadows, Nottingham [C.1891]. The family home had broken up by 1901. Charles George Higgins senior was living with his married daughter Adeliza Gilbert and her husband, Henry, at 13 Garfield Terrace, Meadows. Described as a musician in the 1891 census he would die later that year at Nottingham, aged 53. There is no sign of Adeliza Higgins in the 1901 census and she simply vanishes from the records. In 1901 Charles George Higgins junior was an inmate of the Nottingham Training Institute for Pauper Children at Radford. By 1911 he was a Private serving with the 2nd York & Lancaster Regiment based at Frimley in Surrey. At the time of his enlistment he was living at Denaby in Yorkshire. It must have been one of his sisters who asked for his name to be added to the Radford St Peter’s Church War memorial.
