Family History

Leonard William Rushmore was born in 1893 and was the son William Rushmore (1867 - 1935) and his wife Alice Derbyshire (1865-1907) his mother Alice died in 1907 aged 44 yrs. Leonard married Mabel May Green on 17th January 1916 at the parish church in Hyson Green, they lived at Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham. His widow was living at Bailey Lane, Radcliffe on Trent.

Military History

Sergeant Leonard William Rushmore enlisted on 12th September 1914 at Nottingham, he stated he was 20 years and 14 days old and worked in a hosiery factory. he served with the 13th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, On 12th July 1915 he was appointed to Lance Corporal. He landed in France on 9th September 1915 and on 1st December 1915 he was promoted to Corporal. On 30th April 1916 he was wounded on duty, gassed and suffering from shell shock. on 19th July 1916 after treatment at the Military Hospital at Rouen he returned to England on Salton (Hospital Ship?) Rouen returned to England. He appeared before a medical board on 4th January 1918 and was found unfit for further service due to pleurisy and was discharged 25 Jan 1918. (Form states: discharged no longer physically fit for war service Injuries in service: Gas poisoning. Shell shock.) his discharge address was Lincoln Grove, Radcliffe on Trent. He died on 18th December 1919 and was buried on 22nd December 1919.
