Family History

George Alfred Booker was the son of Joseph Booker and Sophia Taylor who married in Nottingham in 1895. They had three children: George Alfred (b.1897), Elizabeth (1906) and Sarah (b.1909). All were born in Nottingham. Their family home was 12 Naverino Terrace, Brixton Road, Old Radford [C.1901 & CWGC]. Joseph Booker, a coal miner died in Nottingham aged 74 in 1946. His wife, Sophia, died in Nottingham aged 82 in 1952.

Military History

Pte. Booker joined the Royal Scots, but was later transferred to the 576th Home Service Employment Company, Labour Corps, probably because he was no longer sufficiently robust for front line service. He died in February 1919 at Dover, Kent, but his body was brought home and he was buried in the General Cemetery, Nottingham
