Albert Charles Beckett was the youngest child of John Beckett & Mary Jane Andrews, who married in Nottingham in 1865. Four children were identified; Mary, born in 1866, Lucy Josephine, born in 1872, Agnes, born in 1874 and Albert Charles, born in 1877. All the children were born in Nottingham. John Beckett was the keeper of the Royal Hotel, Lister gate, Nottingham. Unfortunately at some time between 1881 and 1891 he suffered some form of paralysis and the family had to give up the hotel. In 1891 Mary Jane was running a green grocers at 246 Alfreton Road, Radford. John was described as unemployed, and died in 1895. By 1901 the census described Many Jane as letting apartments at 1 Burns Avenue, Nottingham. She died in 1910. In 1902 Albert Charles Beckett married Henriette Lucie V. Heitmann in Nottingham. She was born in Calais in 1883 and helped in the shop they ran at 11 Bloomsgrove Street, Radford. She later moved to 246 Denman Street, Radford, and in 1921 she married Albert E. Rawlinson. Albert & henriette had one child, Myrtle, born in 1905.
Pte. Beckett was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. In April 1918 the Germans launch Operation Georgette, which aimed to slice through the British lines and take the Channel ports. There was heavy fighting and Pte. Beckett was killed in action on 18/04/1918. His body was never recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
