Family History

William Edward Eldred was born in 1892 at Grantham the son of the late Thomas a general labourer and Sarah Ann Eldred née Baxter of 66 gamble Street, Nottingham. Thomas was born in 1840 at Moseley, Birmingham, he died in Nottingham in 1902 aged 62 yrs, Sarah Ann Baxter was born in 1849 at Pickworth, Lincoln, married on 25th December 1869 at Grantham they went on to have 7 children. In 1911 William was serving in the army, serving with the 22nd Company Royal Garrison Artillery, he was at Military barracks at Sherness.

Military History

Sergeant William Edward Eldred was in the Army the Royal Garrison Artillery in 1911, he later enlisted at St Pancras, Middlesex and served with C Company, 8th battalion the Buffs (East Kent Regiment) he was killed in action on 26th September 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loss Memorial
