Frederick Alfred Wood has not yet been traced on a census prior to 1911. However, in 1911 he and a William John Wood were visitors in the household of William Peter and Emma Coupland at 3 Mundella Road, Meadows, Nottingham. It seems likely that Frederick and William were brothers. Frederick Alfred (27) was a Gunner RMA and William (23, b. 7 June 1887, Deal Kent) was a cardboard box cutter for a box manufacturer. The family of William Peter Coupland (50, b. Swinderby Lincolnshire), a carter, comprised his wife Emma (52, b. Manchester) and their four children, Lily (25) a fancy frame finisher, Annie (23) a machinist, George Arthur (18) a book stall clerk for a newsagent and Florrie (14) an errand girl. All the children were born in Manchester. Also in the household on the night of the census was a boarder, John Thomas Barden (22) a book stall clerk for a newsagent. The family had moved to Nottingham sometime after the 1891 Census as they were already living in the Meadows at 25 Summers Street at the time of the census in 1901. Frederick Arthur Wood and Lily Coupland (b. 1885, O/N/D Prescot Lancashire) were married in 1913 (O/N/D Nottingham) and were living in Eastney, Hampshire, when their daughter Kathleen was born on 26 August 1914 (J/A/S Portsmouth Hants). Kathleen was baptised in the RMA Church, Eastney, on 20 September 1914. At the time of Frederick's death in 1916 the family was living at 61 Reginald Road, Eastney, Portsmouth. In 1939 at the time the England & Wales Register was compiled, the widowed Lily Wood (b. 27 December 1885) was living at 16 Radcliffe Street, Nottingham, with her daughter Kathleen who was a fishmonger's clerk. Also in the household was Thomas S Crawford (b. 28 November 1916) a railway goods porter. Kathleen married Charles (sic) S Crawford in 1939 (O/N/D Nottingham). Kathleen died on 20 July 1994; she was then living at 10 Kirkewhite Court, Meadows, Nottingham. Her mother Lily may have died in 1973 (Dec Nottingham) although there is a discrepancy with the date of birth on the record, 15 October 1885, and that given on the 1939 Register, 27 December 1885. William John Wood married Lily Coupland's sister, Annie (b. 4 December 1887), in 1915 (A/M/J Nottingham). In 1939 William, a railway goods loader, and Annie were living at 3 Mundella Road, Meadows. Also in the household was Nancy Wood (b. 25 January 1922), single, a bookbinder, and Annie's widowed mother, Emma Coupland (b. 5 July 1858).
