POSSIBLE IDENTIFICATION Son of William Chapman; husband of Ethel Emily Dilks (formerly Chapman), of 3, Lewes Square, Rancliffe (sic) St., Nottingham (CWGC) There is a record of the marriage of an Albert Chapman to Ethel Rolfe in 1895 (O/N/D Nottingham) and of 'Chapman' to Charles W Dilks in 1923 (J/A/S Nottingham). 1939 England & Wales Register: 7 Bertr(-) Street, Nottingham. Ethel E Dilks b. 29 November 1878 (unpaid domestic duties) and husband Charles W Dilks b. 4 January 1875, wagon works labourer (unemployed). Charles served in the war, enlisting in the Sherwood Foresters in 1915 when he was nearly forty years old, but transferring to the Labour Corps shortly after. Ethel died in 1948 (J/F/M Nottingham).
