John Pike was born in 1899 in Nottingham and was the son of the late John and Mary Pike . He was the adopted son of Richard and Susan (later Broomhead) Parr of 24 Duke's Place Barker Gate Nottingham. In the 1911 census his family are living at 3 Whitehall Place, Goose Gate, Nottingham and are shown as Richard Parr 47 yrs a foundry labourer and Susan Parr 46 yrs a charwoman, John Parr 12 yrs a scholar. in the census they state they have been married 13 yrs and have 1 child.

Military History

Private John Pike (served as Parr his adopted parents name ), enlisted at Nottingham and initially served with the service number 25794 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment . He was serving with the 140th Company Machine Gun Corps, when he was killed in action on 21st May 1916. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
